Postnatal

The postnatal period refers to the first 6 weeks immediately following childbirth. Women may experience a variety of symptoms such as prolonged bleeding, abdominal cramping, perineal discomfort, incision pain & numbnesss, difficulty urinating and defecating, possible breast discomfort, emotional difficulty or postnatal depression and other symptoms.

Chinese medicine views the first 3 days post-birth as a time of elimination and so treatment is administered if there are any signs of stagnation. Then, over the next 30 to 100 days, the focus is on restoring wellbeing and energy or, in terms of TCM, restoring both Qi and Blood, which were lost during pregnancy and childbirth.

Acupuncture can help:

• Restore energy levels
• Encourage milk production
• Resolve breast soreness
• Lift mood
• Aid sleep
• Help tears and scars heal quickly

A particular treatment, known as “Mother Warming” is a wonderful treatment administered around day 4-5 after birth. It assists in energising the woman to aid recovery. It can be done in the comfort of your own home and is easily administered by you, your partner or one of our members

For all types of treatment we can treat you at home following your birth or in clinic, which ever suits best.
